List of Classic Space Travel Movies By Decade
Tagged Under : Asteroid Belt, classic, Flying Saucers, Galaxy, Jupiter, Mars, Martian, Moon, Movies, Neptune, Outer Space, Planet, Planet X, Rocket, Rocketship, Saturn, science fiction, Space Travel, Spaceship, Venus
Below is a list of classic space travel movies listed by the decades. For this original publication I am including classic space travel movies from the 1950′ and 1960′. I will over time in later publications add additional decades. In later revisions I will update this list to include classic space travel movies produced as early as the first decade in the 1900′s and even movies right up to 2010 and (over time) beyond.
Once I add a decade in this list I believe I have a fairly comprehensive list, but, if you see a movie you know about is missing from the list, please use the comment system to tell me and the other visitors about it. This list is a work in progress because I am constantly finding some new gem I either had forgot about or never new of to begin with.
From my earliest days as a young boy in the 1950′s I was a science fiction fan, correction, I was a science fiction NUT. A lot of the movies below, especially those made outside the USA, are movies I saw many years after they were originally released. Since I was a science fiction NUT I would go out of my way to watch these movies which means that there are very few of these titles that I haven’t seen at one time or another.
The digital age has been a real boon for me. I have subscriptions to NetFlix and Blockbuster which has allowed me a greater access to these classic space travel movies more so than anytime in my life. But that is not all, now that streaming movies from websites such as YouTube.com, Hulu.com and Sling.com are also starting to provide streaming of space travel movies both new and classic.
One last comment, I plan to watch as many of these that are available and provide plot summaries and reviews here on the Spacemen’s Luck website.

Does anyone remember a sci-fi plot where the space explorers land on a planet where the people emerge from an opening like a cave or structure into the light of day and then each evening – at the sound of a hum or horn, turn trance-like and return underground? The ‘Hero’ of course tries to save the beautiful woman and her fellow people from the trance the sound induces.

Dear sci-fi-loving community, [ 12:10:12 ]
I have been looking for what I think is a 1950’s or 1960’s sci-fi space adventure movie FOR YEARS without any luck. I think it was an American movie (99.5% sure), – else it was English. I saw it in about 1972 on TV. Our TV then was only black and white. All I’ve got to give anyone to go on about it, is the following:
[1] The astronauts were 2 males & 1 female. If there was another, I don’t recall Them.
[2] I seem to remember that they got to the ALIEN PLANET in a flying saucer, – not a rocket.
[3] The “vegetation” there, was all metal, ( but it was just filmed in typical Earth countryside).
[4] The aliens there had magnetic field wands, that they used to control (move)
metal objects, and this is how they captured the earth travellers, -by making
the (metal) vines grab them.
[5] The aliens were basically humanoid, but only in so far as they had 2 arms
and 2 legs. The head was pretty grotesque, – wrinkly I think, maybe ears were long & tall.
I’ll shortly have a look at: “Space Probe Taurus”, – if this IS the one, (& I’m
not highly hopeful), – then you know I need no help.
The above is all I can remember unfortunately. If anyone could help, I would
really appreciate it; maybe someone knows some SUPER, like UNABRIGDED source of
American sci-fi movies from the 50’s & 60’s, -you’d think that by now, someone
would have constructed that list ey ? My email: calfollows@y7mail.com.au
[240730] Yours Sincerely: Cal
