Dimension X

The Federal Bureau of Missing Persons is broadcasting it’s latest coded bulletin transmission with a list of recently missing persons when they receive a CQ (SOS) radio message from a crank calling earth who claims to be calling from the Moon. Triangulating to locate the offender, radio operator Charlie Stafford discovers that the message did in fact come from the Moon from a man identifying himself as Cornelius Otterburn. Of course the call is dismissed, until a minor member of the Federal Bureau of Missing Persons begins to suspect that the call is related to a strange series of disappearances over the past several years.

Charlie Stafford tells Federal Bureau of Missing Persons records clerk Henry Stinton who recognizes the name and decides to investigate the name Cornelius Otterburn and finds only one person with that name has gone missing and he was an Atomic Physicist who had disappeared 5 years previously on June 5th 1945.

Henry Stinton reports this to his superior Mr. Wade who doesn’t believe him and tells Stinton to forget it. Leaving his bosses office he heads back to his desk to find a Mr. Jefferson Philo, scientific feature writer, waiting for him. He states he has heard a rumor that they had received a message from the moon. Stinton downplays the report but agrees to cooperate by inviting Philo to return the next night when Otterburn says he will call again.

After Philo leaves Henry finds a list of names on his desk and is unable to explain how it got on his desk. The next day two people are reported missing who were the first two names on that strange list he found on his desk. Henry is at a lost to explain how the names of two people who were reported missing a day after the list mysteriously appeared.

Investigating further he finds that over the years literally thousands of people have disappeared and that they did it in cycles based on professions. Henry reports his findings to his boss Mr. Wade who still doesn’t believe his theory. Until, the third man on the list turns up missing.

That night they make contact with Otterburn who claims he is in a volcanic crater on the Earth Side of the moon. He then tells them that a scientist who escaped from an insane asylum in 1935 named Ernst Crossman had discovered nuclear rocket power and in 1938 established an earth colony on the far side of the moon. He goes on to say they have agents on earth and they are using the captured scientists and some criminals in a plan to build ships to conquer the earth. At that point Stinton and Mr. Wade hear gun shots and after they duck they realize whoever it was had shot their transmitter. Mr. Wade saw who did it and by Stinton’s description believes it was the mysterious Jefferson Philo.

Mr Wade tells Stinton they need to get away for their safety and whisks Stinton away to his farm outside Chevy Chase (Maryland?). Mr. Wade manages to loose someone who was trailing them and they arrive at the farm where he has Stinton go inside his farm’s huge silo.
