Captain Strong orders the Polaris to blast off and are hot on the trail of the Vanadium smugglers. Roger picks up the smugglers Rocket Scout Ship and Captain Strong orders Full Space Speed but just as they approach and order the ship to standby for a boarding party the ship takes off and they soon loose her because the Pirate Rocket Ship, with auxiliary rockets attached, is much faster than the Polaris.

Captain Strong orders Tom to broadcast a General CQ to be on the alert for the pirate ship. Rocket ship Orion answers the CQ and gives the Polaris her position. Roger using the course they plotted and the position the Orion gave them trianglates a course for Mercury. They deduce that the hidden pirate base must be on the dark side of Mercury.
While searching Mercury Tom picks up a trace heat signature and they soon locate the hijacker’s camp. Pirates Wall and Lamar realize they will soon be found and plan for a way to stop the Solar Guard from capturing them. Wall’s plan is to use an Electron Beam Projector will short out unprotected electronic circuits. Not on the protected Polaris but on the unprotected heating units of their space suits.
As they approach the base the cadet’s spacesuits are short circuited and the extreme cold begins to overcome the Solar Guardsmen and emergency batteries are used to restore the warmth of their suits but only temporarily. While Astro and Roger lay down and play possum as decoys, Tom and Captain Strong get the drop on Wall and Lamar and round up the Pirates.
Unlike part 1 of Doomed Cargo where Tom Corbett was the only Cadet heard, in this episode, all the Cadets including Astro and Roger Manning are active. Part 1 must of been done without those characters to allow Al Markim and Jan Merlin some time off.
