Space Travel Hero Role: Rocky Jones, Space Ranger

Played by Richard Crane, Rocky was the quintessential action hero – brave, strong, handsome, highly moral, and always ready to defend his beliefs with action. To the women of the stories he was irresistible, even to arch villainess Cleolanta, but there were no kisses or other physical displays.

The show was based on the exploits of the clean-cut, square-jawed Rocky Jones, the best known of the Space Rangers. The Space Rangers were Earth-based space policemen who patrolled the United Worlds of the Solar System in the not-too-distant future.

Whatever Became Of Your Favorite Classic Space Travel Actor

Have you ever wondered “Whatever Became of…” someone who years ago was famous and you haven’t heard of them in years? Here at Spacemen’s Luck I have wondered “Whatever Became of…” the many personalities who played Classic Space Travel characters that helped form my vision of Space Travel in the 1950′s and 1960′s.

Not being someone who is willing to wait for someone else to do it for me and after a search around the internet I found no single source discussing “Whatever Became of…” those Classic Space Travelers.

Welcome to the Spacemen’s Luck website. Here we can enjoy our  reminisces from our childhood memories of the age of space.

My name is Thurman “Ray” Plumlee and I am a baby boomer who was born in the mid 40′s (specifically 1947) and enjoyed the radio and TV shows of the 1950′s, 1960′s and even the earlier action cliff hanger serials going back to the early 1930′s. Basically, anything “men in space” from my youth and the earlier programs that inspired them.

My personal favorites are Science Fiction Theater, Tom Corbett, Space Cadet, Commando Cody (the Rocketman), Rocky Jones, Space Ranger, Men Into Space, CDR Buzz Cory of the Space Patrol and, of course, Twilight Zone.

That is not to say I didn’t enjoy the other shows like Captain Video, Dimension X, Tales of Tomorrow, Flash Gordon, Buck Rogers, Captain Z-Ro, and many others. They too are favorites.

When I was growing up there were not many new TV shows being aired. Fortunately a lot of what there was, was juvenile action science fiction related. Also there were not many, if any, movies being made for TV. So a lot of what we saw were the movies from the 1930′s and 1940′s. Especially those cliff hanger serials such as Buck Rogers, Flash Gordon and Rocketman.

With the Russians Sputnik, our Werner Von Braun  and all these fine science fiction TV shows airing it is no wonder the the 1950′s heralded the beginning of the “age of space.”

So come on in and enjoy the “age of space”.
