While en route to Astro’s home world of Venus, and some well deserved shore leave, Lieutenant Commander Burke of the Solar Guard’s Venus Port orders the cadets shore leave canceled and diverts them to the Mercury Base to investigate a possible outbreak of Zero “A” Fever.

The Cadets learn that there are two teams of government scientist who have been operating diggers on Mercury’s hot side on a Top Secret mission. The teams twilight zone base operator had been keeping constant contact with the Solar Guard but during his last transmission it ended abruptly and all contact has been lost.

Continuing their search for Solar Guard Capt. Mitch Parker and his rocket scout their task seems fruitless until Roger sights a lifeboat near the orbit of Jupiter. The lifeboat is empty but the ships log indicates Captain Parker is on the surface of Jupiter.

The atmosphere on Jupiter is inhospitable to say the least and the gravity is nearly 2 1/2 times that of Earth, where each crew member weighs nearly 400 pounds making it difficult for the cadets to work on the surface. After lumbering around and weathering a Jupiter storm and ground quakes rocket scout pilot Captain Parker is found and after much effort is dragged back to the ship and rescued.
