Buster Crabbe in the 1930s
Space Travel Hero Role:
Buster Crabbe played both Flash Gordon and Buck Rogers in the feature sci-fi serials of the 1930′s and 1940′s.
Space Travel Bio:
Born Clarence “Buster” Linden Crabbe in Oakland, California on February 17, 1908, Buster Crabbe spent his formative years in Hawaii, where he learned to swim. Prior to winning a gold medal in 1932 for the 400-meter freestyle, Crabbe had graduated from college and attempted to break into films with a few bit parts while working as a stunt double. Crabbe landed a contract with Paramount Studios in 1933.
Buster Crabbe won a gold medal in the 400 Meter Swimming Freestyle at the 1932 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. He also won a bronze medal in the 1500 Meter Freestyle at the 19228 Amsterdam Olympics.

Journey into Space
Lemmy has continued to hear that strange music and Mitch tells Jet he shouldn’t allow Lemmy out of the ship because he is unstable. Jet and Doc, however, overrule Mitch and Lemmy will be allowed to leave the ship in turn with the others.
After a couple of days of routine spaceflight they have arrived. Spaceship Luna turns around with their rocket engines facing toward the Moon and descend to the surface of the Moon in the area of the Bay of Rainbows. The date is 25 October 1965 (the show is not clear on the actual date) when man first lands on the moon. A full four years before Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin actually did it on July 20, 1969.

Space Shuttle Launching From Cape Canaveral Florida
After the cancellation of NASA’s Constellation program, a plan to send human explorers back to the Moon by 2020, and then onward to Mars and other destinations in the Solar System, and the launch today of the Space Shuttle Endeavour, the countdown to the end of Americas manned space travel has begun.
With only 5 more scheduled Shuttle Missions left (see summary below) before the retirement of the Space Shuttle and now no follow on manned space travel program is planned or in the budget. The last acts of America’s supremacy in space are about to be played.

The 1950 Movie Rocketship X-M
Space scientists Dr. Ralph Fleming and Dr. Karl Eckstrom develop the first manned spaceflight, “Rocketship eXpedition Moon.” Dr. Ralph Fleming remains back on Earth while the Rocketship X-M crew, in addition to Dr. Eckstrom, includes Dr. Fleming’s Assistant Dr. Lisa Van Horn, Astronomer Harry Chamberlain, and ships engineer Major William Corrigan and pilot Captain Floyd Graham.
After a successful launch, the Rocketship X-M mission begins going wrong almost from the beginning, when their ship is hurled across space and past the moon by a rocket malfunction, where they land instead on the planet Mars. Deciding to turn their misfortune into an opportunity the crew begin to explore Mars. They no sooner begin their survey of the Martian surface when they find the remains of a once advanced civilization apparently destroyed by a nuclear holocaust.
